MORRISANIA
Morrisania is a neighborhood in the Bronx. Many people just refer to the
area as the South Bronx, not only because Morrisania is difficult to
pronounce. Morrisania was the site of the infamous Charlotte Street,
which President Jimmy Carter visited in 1977, declaring the South Bronx
to be the worst neighborhood in the United States. Ronald Reagan and
later Bill Clinton also visited Charlotte Street, which had become the
symbol of urban decay in the South Bronx. The appearance of Charlotte
Street has changed a lot since then, now it is filled with suburban
style ranch houses. Like in all South Bronx neighborhoods, a majority of
people is still living below the poverty line.
